Ever get the feeling there are more smartphone releases per day than childbirths? That’s definitely the impression we get from time to time here at Buggingham Palace. Seriously, these days it feels like you can’t throw a stone without cracking the touchscreen of the latest mobile device.
This week sees the release of the new but surprisingly cheap Nokia Lumia 710 (just under £300) and runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. Even more surprisingly, the model holds up well compared to its competitors, Apple and Android, with little to no glitches plaguing the system so far.

Nokia Lumia 710: no bugs so far.
So it’s good value for money, but how long is it going to be before those annoying little defaults start cropping up? You know the ones we mean, right? Of course you do. Everyone’s phone has got a little quirk they can’t help but share with their unsuspecting owner.
We asked around the office to see what phone defaults are currently driving the staff insane.
The Geek
Device: iPhone 3GS
Default: Our resident Twitaddict had some serious difficulties with his social networking when his phone would die whenever he tried to upload pics on Twitter first time round.
Lisa
Device: Blackberry Curve
Default: What initially seemed like a bad case of greasy fingers soon turned out to be a default with the touch pad, as it would fail to scroll across the screen. Other dishonourable mentions go to slow software and a ghostly ‘Enter’ command that made writing texts a logistical nightmare.

Thankfully, not one of our employees.
Jon
Device: Windows Phone (Mango)
Default: The latest addition to the team has had to contend with an unusual speech impediment: his phone would sporadically switch to headphone mode. Callers on the other end of line must have felt like they were speaking to an old, out of tune radio.
Liam
Device: HTC Wildfire
Default: New tester on the block Liam has had to deal with the most exasperating entry on today’s list – his alarm clock would not turn off unless he shut down the phone altogether. Other methods include stomping on the damn thing or chucking it out the window.
Michael
Device: Nokia 6600
Default: None whatsoever. Dated, simple and all the better for it. Nostalgia rules.
What annoying little quirk does your phone have?
